run program at startup.. me again.. :)

I had posted this question before too.. and i did get replies.. but i want to be a bit more specific this time.
I have written a program with QT using its GUI.. now i want to run this program after the user XYZ logs in to GNOME session and AFTER all other loading is done. where should i add the path to this program? I tried adding it to .bashrc in /home/XYZ/.bashrc . This runs the program, but every time i open the console it opens a new instance of my program (which is not what i want, my program should run jsut once ever time the user XYZ logs in) . Also i m using sudo to call my program. so my line is .bashrc is

sudo /home/XYZ/progname -link&5

the -link&5 is the paramerter to be passed to my prog.
Any idea how to get this done?

EDIT: I am using RH9
edit1: I traied adding the program name to RedHat->preferences>sessions->startup programs. But nothing happens.

Run gnome-session-properties , click the Startup Programs tab then Add and type in the command you want to run.
