You could do a 'man rsync' and it will tell you that you use the '--delete' parameter.

Actually the proper option would be to use the "--exclude" parameter.

If backing up to the same drive to overwrite, the directory you would want to exclude already exists, so the --delete would not work in this case. But man rsync gives you all available options, you should read it to learn more about rsync since you've lacked more details in what you want to actually accomplish in your rsync command and your setup.

hdb1 hdc1 hdd1) hda3 hdc1 hdd1 are all my data and hdb1 is my backup hdisk using rsync to backup my entire data disk to hdb1..... now the problem one day went i try to sync my hardisk(hda3 hdc1 hdc1 to hdb1) one of my folder name "My Data" wont sync access is denied and my server automatically reboot i try to delete it but iam being denied even my account is root??? i try to boot to a cd and mount it but it wont delete "rm -R my data" inside the folder there are some files that do not have a permission "rwx" that why i cant delete the files. and also there is a folder went i try to ls i can see the folder but went i try to ls -la it disapered??? that why iam trying to backup my entire data minus "my data" folder"
