rsh doesnt accept connections

Hi

I cant rsh into my linux box. If i do "service rshd status". I get
rshd: unrecognized service

why is that?

I enabled connection in /etc/inetd.d/rsh
disabled no

restarted xinetd service
service xinetd reload

it re-read xinetd.conf file but i still cant rsh into the box. Any suggestions? Thanks.

RSH is normally disabled by most distributions by default because it is extremely insecure. You might want to look into using SSH (service sshd, client ssh) instead.

Check that you have RSH installed, and that it's configured properly (see http://www.fifi.org/cgi-bin/man2html...8/in.rshd.8.gz). Check what the log files say is happening when you try to connect (/var/log/messages and wherever inetd logs to).

Instead of using inetd, you might try running it from the command-line as a daemon:
Code:
rshd &
