rpm manager and redhat 8.0
i can't find the old, familiar gui rpm manager with redhat 8.0 that i have used in the past. was it removed or just moved ?

Do you mean kpackage? Well, it's not installed by any of the default "workstation types" (neither is KDE for that matter) so you will need to specify it through a custom install or add it after the fact.
RH8 doesn't seem to install much by default actually. Need to add SAMBA client, MPLAYER, etc to get your system in a semblance of order. I may be in a minority of one here, but I like the interface, and I can get my hands as dirty as I want in vi or not as I choose. Flibble |
It's there (or something similar is)... If it's not under system settings, it's under the one next to it (sorry, I'm not on my Linux box at the moment) anyway, there's no icon and it's just named "packages"...

Sorry I forgot about that one. Last time I looked at it, it wasn't immediately obvious whether it provided a mechanism to view, install, remove, custom RPM's. It seemed to be a mirror of the initial installation program that only showed the main RPM's and some extra stuff.
Does anyone know whether this shows custom RPM stuff? Personally I prefer the command line rpm, but each to their own. Flibble |
i found it......it actually is "packages". just doesn't look like the old rpm manager with the section to "check mark" the packages to install/uninstall.
thanks guys, a |
