In Ubuntu (and Debian), there is a command (alien) that will install rpms.

in the man pages for your package manager, there should be more info--Into what distro do you want to install an rpm?

Slackware has a tool rpm2tgz to convert RPMs into Slackware TGZ packages. Alien will work too.
