For editing fstab - I'd su to root

open a terminal

su
root password

kedit /etc/fstab

(or put your text editor name in place of kedit)

Open an x terminal (icon like a TV or anything in the menu with "terminal" in it's name). To change to the root account, use these commands from your user account. Note the - in the command and the change in the prompt.
Code:
[fancy@tinwhistle fancy]$ su -
Password:
[root@tinwhistle root]#
