root filesystem failed

hi, can somebody pls help me with this... my linux failed while booting up. how to bring this up again? thanks alot

check root filesystem
/contains a file system with error, checked forced
error reading block 6684682 (attampt to read block from filesystem resulted in short read) while doing inode scan
/: unexpected inconsistency; run fsck manually (i.e. without -a or -p options)

I'd recommend booting of a Rescue-CD
and running fsck manually...

Cheers,
