1. Check if your bootloader is pointing to the real root. ie, if you are using lilo, it might be trying to boot /dev/hda and your hd may now be put as /dev/hdb
Can try boot floppy and root=/dev/hd* option at lilo prompt.
2. See if you have required modules loaded. ( ext3 etc. )
3. Just to see the contents of that put it in another m/c and try mounting it. If you want to use floppy for this you might download some small linux distro from net and try it.
( May be you can make your own root floppy. But downloading will be easier. )

Can you boot to the single user mode?
At lilo prompt type linux single, or init 1,
if you can get to this point you're 51% away from stable linux system status. I guess you have a bookie for linux administration(I read your post about RHCE, and if you are serious about it I assume you have some linux books), and read on fsck, mounted filesystems, etc.
Need more help?
If the single mode would turn to unavail due to no harddrive found error, then check your HD cabling - the cable could've become loosen, phsically examine the HD for any external damage or heat generation, yada-yada-yada.

I already tryed booting in single mode, and that didn't work either.
But guess what? I just changed my scsi card and now it suddenly works!!! It has no problems booting so i could get all the info from that disk that i needed.
Thanks for all the help!
