RIP Linux Voice

A sad day. I got an email this morning informing me that LV is being merged into Linux Magazine. I really did like the whole Linux Voice thing. It looks like the generous intent of the founders was not sustainable in the grand scheme of things.

Funnily enough, Linux Magazine was the first linux publication I ever read. I have a few issues of my subscription to run so a good chance to see whether to get back on board

Here's a link to the story on the LV website: https://www.linuxvoice.com/linux-voi...-media-family/

The Linux voice crew is going to continue as part of the Linux Magazine staff and also have promised to continue their podcast, which is a joy and a hoot--we need more tech podcasts with laughter!

LV is the first computer magazine I've subscribed to since PCMag became all Windows all the time back in the 90s and it's taught me a lot. I contributed to their Indiegogo campaign pre-launch and have enjoyed every issue. I will certainly give their new incarnation a trial.

I enjoyed Linux Voice a lot too and had just renewed my subscription not too long ago. I haven't otherwise subscribed to anything since Byte was shutdown by CMP perhaps because it was getting too interested in FOSS. A long time ago I used to subscribe to a half dozen but some, like A.I. Expert for example, went under on their own, perhaps for being too niche. Others were subsumed by the cult of Bill and lost any informational value. One, I can't remember the name, became more like an advertisement for Redmond than a computing magazine. Some of the LV crew will be joining Linux Magazine so I am hoping that the result will be the best of both. One can hope.
