RH9 hangs on startup
I have RH9, and for some reason it stopped booting for no apparent reason. It has been working fine for the last 6 months, but it now hangs on boot. I see booting kernel for a max of 20 minutes(that is as long as I have waited), then I ctrl+alt+del and wait a minute and it shuts down.
I have tried ctrl+alt+F1-12 and most other keys, but nothing happens. In /var/log/boot.log I can see no differences in the boot when it was working and when it isn't (knoppix networking doesn't work so i can't cut and paste easily) but it starts wine, then shuts down anacron: Jan 19 20:09:07 localhost rc: Starting wine: succeeded Jan 19 20:27:42 localhost atd: atd shutdown succeeded In /var/log/messages after it starts wine there is this Jan 19 20:09:07 localhost xfs: ignoring font path element /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/cyrillic (unreadable) Jan 19 20:27:41 localhost shutdown: shutting down for system reboot If I look back at a successful boot, I see this line after the cyrillic (unreadable) Dec 16 18:48:45 localhost gdm(pam_unix)[2999]: session opened for user etpeters by (uid=0) Any suggestions? If you hand it the parameter "single"
at your bootmanagers prompt ... does that work? Cheers, Tink |
By handing it the parameter single do you mean adding single to the line that (for me grub) uses to boot? This is the new line:
kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.4.20-8 ro root=LABEL=/ single and no, that didn't change anything. |
Anyone have any other ideas? Anything will be helpful.
