RH8 lockup (runaway)
I posted something similar a few days ago (RH8 runaway).
I had made a fairly big install, and it consistently went berserk after a few hours. (Posts on how to use "top" and "ps" were helpful--thanks.) I decided to re-install (desktop default), and---for a few days__things seemed stable. Then, this AM, it locked up doing a tar -x. could not get any control back (I did jump to command line on ctrl-alt-f2, but it was unresponsive to any input.) As with the previous incident, the HD light was stuck on. configuration: Abit kr7A-133R, four 40g maxtor ata 133 in 2 level 0 RAIDs (this board has the Highpoint 372 RAID controller, and I used the patches supplied by sharkyrOlz (see the hardware forum) Athlon XP1900 512Meg pc2100 does any of this match up to other reported RH8 issues? :newbie: :newbie:   :newbie: |

Try these links--you're not the first with this problem:
http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...ight=Abit+kr7a http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...ight=Abit+kr7a I didn't read them in depth, but the problem would seem to be with the RAID configuration and not the motherboard. The first one mentions highpoint--try there to see if they have RH 8 support. Also, search google and red hat's web site. |
