I am attempting to bring my OS level up to date or upgrade.
I would like to go to RH8 or at minimum 7.3.
I don't understand the i386 as oppose to i686 which I'm running. Can I use the i386 if there is not an i686 for my updates or upgrades?
I'm at http://rhn.redhat.com/errata/rh71-errata-security.html trying to figure out what to do first.
Is there a command I can use to see what is installed as far as patches or fixes?
Thanks,
Jay
yes you can use them fine, they're simply not compiled using any cpu features created after 386's. eg mmx, sse... so it may run slightly slower. not normally noticeable though.
Thank you for your response. It helped alot. I also clicked on your links. Thanks.
I needed to know also what the "SRPMS" meant in the,
"Updated rpm packages available" site. I scroll down to RH7.1 and there are different options such as, "alpha", i386 etc..
You answered my i386 question, and thanks again, but I don't understand what I need to update first.
Can I also jump to 7.3 or 8 without going through each OS version?
Thanks again.
Jay
