RH 7.1->7.2 Upgrade Issue
I just finished updating my RH 7.1 to 7.2 using the CDs burned from downloaded images. I have been crying since.
When I boot the box, the X doesn't start on tty7. I have to log in and start x manually. Even then, X is not guaranteed to start. It starts sometimes, and doesn't most of the times. Has anyone encountered this problem? Thanks, Ravi |
i haven't encountered this problem... the rh7.1 to rh7.2 upgrade was pretty smooth for me...
have u tried to reconfigure X? perhaps u can try running Xconfigurator (can't remember which directory it's in... i'm not on my linux box...) and then reconfigure X from there and try again? |
Next time it dosn't start post the error message from /var/log/xfree86.0.log.

what kind of mouse are you using?

It's a 8D Internet yahoo mouse. Even though it doesnt say if it's PS/2 compatible, I believe it is.

I forgot to add in my previous post that, there should be nothing wrong with the mouse. This is because I also boot SuSE on the same machine and it doesn't have any problems either. Infact RH71 didn't have problems too.
However, here's an update: I wiped out the old stuff and make a fresh install. The problem still persists. 1. it won't go into UI mode to log in. I still see the text mode on tty7. I am damn sure I selected a graphical login during install. 2. Logging off is a pain. KDE won't logoff. Infact I am not sure. When I press the log off button, I don't see nothing. tty7 goes into some kind of limbo. |
