Returning to X from terminal

Is there a way to return to X after entering a terminal by pressing Ctrl + Alt + Fn? I have always had to log in as root... change the run level to 3 and then back to 5 to return to X. Just wondering if there's an easier way.

It's usually Ctrl-Alt-F7. I've seen some where it's Ctrl-Alt-F5. Not sure where that key combination is assigned, but it won't hurt anything to try all Ctrl-Alt-FX combinations to see which one it is.
