retriving deleted files and folders

I deleted a set of directories that were mounted with a NFS client. Can I possibly get these folders and files back.

once I made that mistake and I tried really hard to get the files back, there is no way unless you want to do some serious hacking. If you do want to get into that then you can google for some tutorials, they're easy to find.

I recommend that you install a recycle bin program that will keep your files a little while jus tin case.

the simple answer is no. the long answer is if it is nfs you have to restore them on the server machine, if it uses ext2 or 3 you *might* be able to find an un-delete utility at which poijnt you hope the area of the drive that held the data has not been over-writen. if you are using reiserfs or xfs than I do not think there is a utility (I looked for a long long time after deleting a lot of important stuff about a year ago, there were none then.) if it is reiserfs the reiserfs site has a faq question about it and he sais you can send the drive and some cash to him and when he has time he will try to do it manually.
