restoring linux boot from DOS
 

Hi!

I'm looking for a way to get into linux from DOS.

I'm running the folowing configurtation:

/hda1/ -> FAT16/"Win98"
/hda5/ -> FAT16
/hdb1/ -> FAT16
/hdb2/ -> Ext3/"RedHat Linux 8" (psyche)

Currently the system boot's into Windows 98 so I'm looking for a way to boot into the Linux configuration on hdb2.

do you have the boot disk.
you can always boot from boot disk and then make restoration from there.

another method is to use your linux installation disk like redhat/ mandrake does, a bootable cd normally the 1st disk of the distros installations disk.

if you use redhat you can insert the 1st installation disk of redhat in to cdrom then set bios boot priority to cdrom then boot until you get message to install redhat, by there you can then type linux rescue.

if you dont know much about linux command and some basic knowledge of how the linux is boot then you'll get stuck.

The problem is, I haven't got an Linux bootdisk or CD. I downloaded the image files from RedHat FTP and installed it with the included dosutils (autoboot.bat/loadlin) but now I would like to keep my old/existing Linux instalation and install an dualboot or create an floppy to boot into linux.

Let me know if it is possible.
