I been using both Mandrake 9.1 and Redhat 9 and have only been using Linux for about a week now. I know what Windows calls restart it will shut the PC down and start it up again but Linux on my PC will just shut my PC off. Is that normal for Linux or do I have some kind of hardware compatibility problem with Linux or something? Thanx in advance.
If you use graphical login in Mandrake, there should be 'halt' and 'reboot' option. 'halt' turns the machine off when 'reboot' reboots it. There should be a similar option in RedHat.
It may be an installation problem because I get some kind of error at start up and usually it'll just freeze right after it does the storing etho files thing and i can't do anything after that. Or a hardware compatibility issue. I think it has rebooted a couple times so far but most of the time it will just shut off.
