Resizing a partion.
I have a machine that I use to dual boot, but awhile ago I just decided I didn't need one of the partions, so I deleted it and continued to use the other partion. I did a bit of google work, and it seems to be that resizing a partion is a bit risky. I was just curious if anyone could suggest the safest way to go about resizing, or if someone did the same thing a found a good tool. Any help is appreciated. Oh, the machine is running slack, kernel 2.6.12.3. The partion that is in use is like 50gigs, so just making a back up isn't an option seeing how I don't have a spare hd that large hanging around.
it really depends upon the filesystem you have on it.
resizing of fat/extx partitions is quite safe, and although reiser_resize claims to be risky, i have never really had problems with it. Backing up everything shouldn't be necessary anyway, although it is always wise to save anything that is of dire importance.
even ntfs resizes nicely, so i have found.
and of course, for resizing fat/extx, you will use parted. reiserfs, you will use reiser_resize... ntfs you will use ntfs_resize.
