Newbie to Linux, over several days and twenty plus attempts with different windows 10 oracle virtualbox os versions. Downloaded appropraite older and newer versions from several different sites, errors indicated a corrupted download. Some downloads would be zero bites. Uninstalled virus protection suite including registry bits and disabled windows firewall. Rinse & Repeated no change.

Finally relented and installed a trial version of VMware with anti virus and firewall restored. SUCCESS ON FIRST ATTEMPT. If possible since I'm just learning would rather not shell out the $199 for VMware. Any advice good, bad or ugly as to what my malfunction might be would be appreciated.

Having said that, I have downloaded the Windows version of VirtualBox many times from virtualbox.org without problems.

Alternatives to VirtualBox: Hyper-V, or if your goal is not virtualizing an entire machine but just running Linux, look into WSL.
