rename the server and assign the new IP for the server

Is that right when I rename the server, I can simply go to /etc/sysconfig/network and add the name to the network file???

2. for assigning IP address, I can simply go to /etc/hosts????

Please advise.

Assigning the IP should be in your network scripts as you stated before.. your hosts file is to list hosts on your network, sort of like a mini DNS, so you don't have to remember your other hosts on your networks IP's.
