Removing RedHat 9.0 and installing SuSE 8.2
 

hi, i have on my computer Win XP & Linux RedHat 9.0 .
i want to install now SuSE 8.2 (from FTP install), and keep the Win XP as is. i want to know how can i Uninstall\Remove the RH 9.0 , without effecting the XP.
some more question - do i need to do some: fdisk /mbr from DOS ? or the installation of SuSE will do it by itself when installing?
or... maybe while installing the SuSE i can remove the RH too? does it removes the SWAP space too?
i know that the installation downloads SuSE from FTP server, so i dunno what will happen after it and what i will be able to do.

I dont know about suse but all you should need to do is format and partition the RH drive or partition and install suse on it or just startup the suse install program and it shiould have a option to format and partition during setup just tell it to do the RH partition only. Make sure you understand what partions windows is on and RH are on or you could wipe out everything.

You don't have to format your MBR unless you installed it on /dev/hda (master boot sector). If you're dual booting with NT Loader as your primary boot loader, you can even boot into windows, go to Administrative Tools and delete the ext3 partitions from there so you're sure you wont corrupt your windows installation.

Another way, and I'm not sure about how SuSe does this, but most distros' setup lets you format partitions from there, so if you installed GRUB on your Linux partitions, you shouldn't even have to mess with the partitions, just over ride them and format them through the setup utility once you boot off your floppy/CD.
