removing desktop icon...

hi,

i use to have my desktop completely blank with no icons on it.........

but there is one icon on my desktop which i cant simply remove, its a device-symbol for my hdc1 partition, thats where grub and the initrds reside.....

but

Code:
ls -al /home/jollyroger/Desktop
says there is nothing on my desktop, but it is....

and if i do a right click on it, the only option i can choose is

"unmount volume"

which is not what i want, i simply want to delete the icon...

scince i dont want to ruin my installation, i am not sure wether i can simply delete the icon....

so, two questions:

1. is it safe for me to delete that symbol using the del-button?

2. why is there a symbol, when ls -al shows nothing?

any help is appreciated...

I am guessing you are using KDE as your gui. If so then goto Start Menu > Control Center > Desktop > Behavior. From there select the Device Icons tab to the right. If the Show desktop icons box is checked then uncheck it.

Hope this helps.

I think this is in Nautilus.....

Applications >System >Configuration >Gnome >Advanced >GConfEditor

Apps >Nautilus >Desktop
