Remote logout

Is there an easy way to force a user to log off? Here's my situation: I logged on to check my mail before I left for work this morning, noticed a something strange, and 'su' ed to root. I forgot to log out. I'd rather my computer wasn't logged into root all day, and I'd also rather not force a reboot, as my adsl connection sometimes needs to be massaged into existance after a reboot. I can get root access through ssh, how do I kill the other root login?

I dont think that can be done. As it would mean a user would need authority over root. I think it is a security breach for the system if that is allowed( I also never heard of someone doing it). I tried a GL search, try one too, you might find something

A good practice, is to just get used to [CTRL]+D this will log you out very quickly. You should also make it a practice to not SU - to root unless absolutely neccessary, like in the compile proccess, or installing packages. This way you are only root for a small while which will help you keep from doing this.

wel... i myself am looking for a technique to logout remotely..but you could try setting the TMOUT shell variable used by the bash shell.
You would be automatically logged out if you stay idle for more that TMOUT seconds

hope that helps...

Nihar
