reiserfsck --rebuild-tree won't finish

I have an 80gb reiserfs HD that reports this after "reiserfsck --check":

Do you want to run this program?[N/Yes] (note need to type Yes if you do):Yes
reiserfsck --check started at Sun May 22 12:12:12 2005
Replaying journal..
Reiserfs journal '/dev/hdf1' in blocks [18..8211]: 0 transactions replayed
Checking internal tree..

Bad root block 0. (--rebuild-tree did not complete)

so I run "reiserfsck --rebuild-tree" but every time i run it, it pauses at about 80% and doesn't budge, and eventually crashes my comp. There is some stuff on there that i would really like to save, but i can't get to it.

Any ideas?

I'm having almost the same problem, and am looking for this answer as well.
