Reinstalling Kubuntu on my X240 went wrong, how do I get the stuff on sda6 on sda5?
Hi there,
last week I had to reinstall Kubuntu16.04.3 on my X240 because I forgot the passphrase to unlock my home partition and for whatever reason also had no recovery key around.
So I lost some of my files - that's okay - but I also couldn't installing the fresh Kubuntu installation to /dev/sda5.
That's weird I thought, so I messed around with the partitions until I've got just enough space that I could install it temporary to the newly created sda6.
Now here's the thing, how do I get all the stuff moved to /dev/sda5 in order to get rid of my newly created partition, so I get more free space in return?
sda5 appears to be empty. Boot the Kubuntu live disc or USB and run gparted to delete sda5 and move sda6 to the left. You can then expand it to include the unallocated space left from delete sda5.

Thank you, that actually did the trick for me
Alright, I admit that I still had to deactivate the swap partition during the process but after doing as you said and after reinstalling GRUB, everything works fine again.
