Regarding volume control in fedora core 3


hi all,
i have linux fedora core os.
when i open xmms audio player the volume is always constant.
when i going to set the volume control of operting system it is not
going to effect the sound, it always maximum sound. when i click
mute it will mute the sound, but when i going to adjest the volume
it not.
can help me out how to over come to this problem
