reformat file system (from ext2 to ext3)
i use mandrake 8.1 and my current file system is ext2
can i move or reformat my file system to ext3 without reformat or reinstall my mandrake ?? thanx for the help :newbie: |
Take a look at http://www.redhat.com/support/wpapers/redhat/ext3/
|
You'll have to reinstall to change the FS in mandrake, and if you do then reiserFS is a better choice, mandrake have better reiser support than ext3. Redhat OTOH have gone with ext3 and even offer the option to update the fs from ext2 to ext3 with v7.2.

no, there's no need at all to reinstall / reformat, like that doc says, just use tune2fs -j /dev/hdaX and then edit /etc/fstab
|
do we need certain files to install ext3 using tune2fs command ??
and what should I edit in /etc/fstab ?? thanx alot for the help |
Extf3 support is already built into your Mandrake. You don't need any extra files.
In /etc/fstab you should change ext2 to ext3 for the partitions you've converted. |
