RedHat7.3 wuftpd

I am installing the wu-ftpd-2.6.2-5.i386.rpm on RedHat7.3. I can use secure shell to connect to the server, and ping the server. Lokkit is set to allow FTP. However when I try to ftp the server, I get the message:

ftp: connect: Connection refused

I would appreciate any advice. Thanks.

Check if the ftp daemon is running . Also set Firewall
to no Firewall (try if u wish)

I thing to consider with a firewall is ftp doesn't work like http. Http you go in and out on port 80. Ftp is usually established on port 21 but the data goes through a secondary port usually 20 ftp-data port.

Thanks for the advice. The ftp daemon wasn't running. I will continue working on it.

advice:

skip wuftpd due to lack of security.. it has a lot of leaks..
dunno why RH still offers this POS

go with the newest Proftpd instead(www.proftpd.org)

KayJay:wu-ftpd is better than proftpd, easier to install

Run /usr/sbin/ftpstart

oh god,
who gives a damn about user friendliness while wu-ftpd is considered unsecure??? beats me.

proftpd might be a little more difficult to install because it doesnt has a GUI frontend but it's considered for FTP services the most secure thing.
