I assume you are talking about the virtual terminals ?
Did you try all possible terminals Alt+Ctrl F1 to Alt+Ctrl F6 ? One of them should give you the terminal.

You can check the /etc/inittab file. It should contain some entries like:

Quote:
# Run gettys in standard runlevels
1:2345:respawn:/sbin/mingetty tty1
2:2345:respawn:/sbin/mingetty tty2
3:2345:respawn:/sbin/mingetty tty3
4:2345:respawn:/sbin/mingetty tty4
5:2345:respawn:/sbin/mingetty tty5
6:2345:respawn:/sbin/mingetty tty6

Hi,

Thanks for the reply.Yes I tried Alt+Ctrl F1 to Alt+Ctrl F6.They are ok.And also inittab contains the tty inormation. In GUI login ,If I open the terminal window, it is just a blank screen, as I mentioned in previous.

Oh ok, the gnome-terminal then.

Could you give more details.
Do you see the menu bar ? Is there a cursor ? Did you try changing the colors ? Is this the first time you are opening the terminal ?
