This is my first post in this forum.I have dual boot in my system. One is windows xp and another is Redhat 9 release.
my system is showing abnormal behaviour. When I boot in to linux. It is going fine. But when I opened up the terminal , it is just a blank screen i.e no host name( newbie.linuxx$]) , and key board also non responisve.
Can any body tell me how to fix this issue.Any helps are apriciated.
Thanks in advance.
I assume you are talking about the virtual terminals ?
Did you try all possible terminals Alt+Ctrl F1 to Alt+Ctrl F6 ? One of them should give you the terminal.
You can check the /etc/inittab file. It should contain some entries like:
Quote:
# Run gettys in standard runlevels
1:2345:respawn:/sbin/mingetty tty1
2:2345:respawn:/sbin/mingetty tty2
3:2345:respawn:/sbin/mingetty tty3
4:2345:respawn:/sbin/mingetty tty4
5:2345:respawn:/sbin/mingetty tty5
6:2345:respawn:/sbin/mingetty tty6
Thanks for the reply.Yes I tried Alt+Ctrl F1 to Alt+Ctrl F6.They are ok.And also inittab contains the tty inormation. In GUI login ,If I open the terminal window, it is just a blank screen, as I mentioned in previous.
Could you give more details.
Do you see the menu bar ? Is there a cursor ? Did you try changing the colors ? Is this the first time you are opening the terminal ?
Yes it is gnome-terminal. Yes menu bar is there.it is not first time opening the terminal.I have worked many times. But recently my XP has shown some problems, after that when I boot in to linux, and opening the terimal, nothing ,just blank. No I have not chnaged the colors.I will try.
