RedHat Enterprise 5 randomly freezes and requires power down.

I'm running Redhat Enterprise 5 (Linux saic12 2.6.18-8.el5 #1 SMP Fri Jan 26 14:15:21 EST 2007 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux)on a Dell D830 with 4Gigs RAM and a NVidia video card. I downloaded the NVIDIA-Linux-x86-100.14.11-pkg1.run package to set up my video displays. I'm using twinview to run a second LCD display.

Recently my laptop has frozen with no mouse, etc. so that I've had to power down and reboot. I could not 'ssh' in from another machine. Sometimes it happens 2X a day. This last time, all I was doing was moving the mouse. No external programs were running. Has anyone seen the same thing or can tell me what log to check to help figure out what causing this?

Thanks.

Hi.

Check /var/log/messages for anything that looks like trouble. I'd try running without the nVidia driver and see if it's any better with just the nv driver.

To be honest, it sounds like either you've got a heat problem, or your RAM is dodgy.

Install Redhat Enterprise into Dell D830

Do you meet any problem during the installation of Redhat Enterprise 5
into the Dell D830? I have "NO hard drive found" and "unkown monitor" issues during the installation of Redhat V4, and thinking to move to V5.
Thanks.
