RedHat - Apache 2.0.59 SSL will not start - error loading mod_ssl.so

I cannot get Apache start with SSL. Below are the start command and error:

[hyperion@<servername> bin]$ ./apachectl startssl

Syntax error on line 250 of /apps/opt/hyperion/common/httpServers/Apache/2.0.59/conf/httpd.conf:
Cannot load /apps/opt/hyperion/common/httpServers/Apache/2.0.59/modules/mod_ssl.so into server: /apps/opt/hyperion/common/httpServers/Apache/2.0.59/modules/mod_ssl.so: undefined symbol: X509_free

If I comment out the LoadModule statement for mod_ssl.so and change the listen port, Apache starts up fine.
