Im trying to install RH9 on my new Sony Vaio laptop. I've done the full installation but RH could not detect my video card, i chose the one card and RH will not boot proper graphical wise! (Stupid i know)
I've booted into Linux Rescue and into the shell, i want to get into the xconfig settings.
How can i do this? i've tried 'redhat-config-xfree86' and it does nothing!
sony uses a bunch of junk hardware that is propriatory and i hate to say this, but i would not be supprised if there is not *nix support for that vid card.
only sujestions i could offer is to hit the sony web page and see if they offer *nix drivers for your laptop. if so see if you can install the *nix drivers for your vid card, MB, sound, and NIC.
if they have at least the vid drivers you may then be able to get into Xwindow, but if RH is not able to figure out what vid card to use you may not have any access to the GUI until you get it something it knows what to do with.
just like trying to run windows with a bad vid card, you get errors and the system halts. at least with *nix you still have the OS to work with, just not the GUI.
for installing rpm there are several howto guides on the web you can find via google. serch. sorry cant tell you how as ive only done 1 successful rpm install of a program. still a *nix newbie. but i can tell you the howto guides work real well.
