Redhat 9 No login window

My problem is... I turn on the my computer, Redhat9 goes through all the normal booting processes, and when its done booting and i should have a login screen, I dont...
Ive tried all the Ctrl+Alt F's and no luck, not even a text login.
It doesnt have internet access so I cant putty in until after I login.
I have a knoppix, but i dont know what i should do with it to fix this.
If anyone has any suggestions or somthing I should do, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks a Ton

try this

when the system starts
after u selct redhat 9 to boot
u get to choose interactive mode
choose that mode by pressing "i"
then u can select what service u want to start and what not to

do not start the service before which ur screen goes blank
and see if this works

Ok, i have that option but it doesnt reckognise that im pressing "I" so.. i dont know why thats happening, should i edit commands before booting? If so what? Thanks.

if u should get a message
press I for interactive mode

press 'i' for 4-5 times so that i hit the right mode
then u wil get to interactive mode

i have always gone through this many times

I see what you mean, but still no interactive startup, even if i press "I" like crazy...
I see the text login window for a few seconds but then it goes away?

masand 06-18-2005 03:47 AM

ok do this

bootup from abother CD or OS
mount ur redhat root partition then
edit the /etc/inittab file and change ur runlevel from "5" to "3"

then u can start in text mode

and after loggin in to text mode
run

startx

and look for error messages
