I'm not sure what is going on here, this has never happened before. I had a computer with Windows XP on it and then put in a second hard drive (an 8GB, and yes, it works fine) and installed Linux on it successfully (as far as I know). I tried to boot up Windows XP and it worked with no problems, and then I restarted and tried to boot up Red Hat Linux 9 (by the way, I'm using GRUB). It starts loading, sets the default font, etc, and then it says:
"Remounting root filesystem in read/write mode:"
And just sits there indefinitely... I know my hard drive works, because if it didn't, I wouldn't have been able to install it in the first place, right? I know that Linux can read and write to it because it did that while installing. What the heck is going on here, and how do I fix it? I've never encountered this problem before even though I've installed RedHat two or three times on this same hard drive (on a different computer, but all of my hardware meets the reccomended system requirements...) Anyone know what is happening?
Distribution: Lots of distros in the past, now Linux Mint

Maybe, and it's just a wild guess, but you have problems with something in the bios, like a power management option. (Always a good place to start.) If the drive works fine in other systems, and you haven't had problems with RH before, this might be a good place to start. Just kill all your powermanagement stuff, and if that works, start turning things back on until you find the culprit.
Another possibility is that you have bad memory module. Windows will run no problem on bad memory (which can cause all sorts of worse problems in the long run), but Linux will tend to refuse to run if there is a problem. I had this because of a buildup of dust inside the case. Windows ran fine, Linux said, "no way." It might be something else to check, especially if you have a good memory testing program you can run.
