Redhat 8 Screen Saver Problem
Hello,
I have RH8 running on a Dell Inspiron 4150 laptop. The problem is that the screensaver seems to go all haywire and locks up the computer leaving the only option off shutting down with power button ( not a good option ). Can anyone help please. Thanks, scon |
which screensaver are you using? have you tried using others?
there's some HERE - sorry can't recommend any in particular, haven't used any of these can you get out of the lockup by ctrl+alt+F# - then kill X or the screensaver? |
I am using Gnome 2. Looked at those optional screensavers and will download and try.
Can't use Ctrl alt F# when machine "locks" but will use this option before I leave laptop idle as command line terminal is fine. Thanks for your help Genessee |
are you sure it's the screensaver and not some other powersaving feature that kicks in at around the same time?

I have found, after numerous different combination's, that if I set mode to "Only One Screensaver" and "Lock Screen After 0 minutes" in Screensaver Preferences, then no more problems.
This seems peculiar but I am happy with this as it beats having to kill X Windows every time before ScreenSaver kicks in. Now I need to investigate quirks of laptops powersaving functions as you suggest. Thanks |
