RedHat 8 - > KDE 3.1 Help


Guys,

I dont want to use the apt get method that most explain as im not on cable, but can burn the files on CD how do i go about upgrading the files for Redhat 8?

Do i just install one by one?

Which gcc must i have?

If you have to download the files anyway, why would you burn them on a disk? Why not just downlosd and install them?

ive obtained a copy from a friend who downloaded them as he is on cable, and im on dialup modem so it would take forever to do.

What do i do once i have the rpms?

rpm -Uvh packagename

I believe you have to install the libs and base packages first, but after the order doesn't matter.

Sounds like you should read about installing 3.1 at the kde website, and give man rpm a gander too.

My best advice is honestly to use gnome! I installed KDE 3.1 becuase I thought it looked better, but I switched back to gnome because it seems to be a little quicker, and has less clutter than KDE.

check out the kde doc. and you can find which packages to install first and which packages to install then
