RedHat 8.0 error logging onto firewire device

RedHat 8.0 > I have a hard drive and a dvd rom drive hooked up to me Audigy Firewire connector. RedHat loads the ieee 1394 & sbp2 drivers and detects the Oxford device (contains a Maxtor hard drive) & the ADS Technogies device (dvd rom drive) but I cannot access the actual devices > the hard drive or dvd rom.

I get the following:
ieee 1394 -sbp2: Error logging into sbp2 device - login timed out
: sbp2_login_device_failed

lsmod shows both modules

dmesg shows both the Oxford & ADS devices

I know RH sees these devices because I booted without them on and I got a Kudzu (?) message that the devices were missing.

I run Mandrake 9.0 (2.4.19-16mdk) on this machine also > I can access the Firewire hard drive & dvd rom without a problem.

Any ideas on how to solve this? Do I need to add some patch and recompile the kernel?

Lightbulb

I did not get a chance to work it out in Mandrake but it worked for me in RedHat 9 Mandrake 9. I got it to mount my external FireWire HDD. I think it has to do with the version of your kernel. I am going to try it with the updated kernel on RedHat 8.0 later. Hope I have been of some help.
