redhat 7.3 pppoe question

I was wondering if any of you other pppoe users out there have experienced problems maintaining a constant connection to the internet? I get a new ip address every couple of minutes. Maintaining an irc connection is very difficult. Does anyone have any ideas about this?

well I don't know I'm not using redHat,but...

I don't think the problem is the OS... What's the PPPoE adapter you're using? If you're using the one you can get at roagingpengins.com (roaging, roaming? dont remember!) I don't think the problem came from the adapter too.

Well what is the adapter you are using? And are you sure your provider support people connected without their adapter?

I am using rp-pppoe and yes I am sure that my provider allows the use of other pppoe 'adapters'. I use the one that comes built in to windows xp and have no problems at all getting on and staying connected for days at a time. The only time I get a new ip address is when I have to reboot or disconnect manually.
