Redhat 7.2 Logins

I am having a problem where I can login as root but rying to login as anything else and mdiway through bootup the computer hardlocks. I can successfully login under the command line, but I would really like to be able to login using another account other than root. Very confused.

I had a siliar problems some times ago (with RH 7.2), in my situation it turned out that the file permission for home of user other than root was incorrectly changed during the installation of RH7.2... (even if the system and the /home locations were on a different partitions)

Hope this help,

Marco

How did you fix it. This is not the first time it has done it to me.

Basically, I entered as root and used the "chown" command to change permission to
/home/user_1,
/home/user_2
etc...

At any rate, I still have some problem in selecting "all and only" the files of a given user .. for example, if I do
> chown .* ...

(to change also the permission of the hidden files named (to say) ".something"

it apparently affects also the file OUTSIDE the directory in which I'm working... any help of a more experienced linux user I think will be needed...!

Regards,

Marco
