Red Hat Linux 8.0

When i try to install Red Hat Linux 8.0 on my system i get the following warning message while creating a new partition:

"Warning: Boot partition / may not meet booting constraints for your architecture. Creation of a boot disk is highly encouraged." Below the warning message there are two options, one is "Modify Partition" and the second option is "Add anyway". When i select the "Add anyway" option the setup continues and the installation gets over successfully. But when i reboot my sytem and then select "Red Hat Linux" in the boot menu i get the following error message

"Error 28: Selected item cannot fit into memory. Press any key to continue.... When i press a key the boot menu shows up again."

My system configuration is as given below.

AMD Athlon XP 2000+ Processor.
ASUS A7N266-VM Motherboard.
128 MB DDR-RAM.
1.44 MB FDD(Sony).
40 GB HDD(Seagate Barracuda).
15" Monitor(Samsung 56V).
52X CD-ROM Drive(Samsung).
PS/2 Mouse(Logitech).
Multimedia Keyboard(Samsung).

My system has onboard graphics card(GeForce 2 MX) and Dolby Digital sound sub-system.

Secondly i cannot install Red Hat Linux in graphical mode. I have to start the installation in text mode because when i press Enter to start the setup in graphical mode the screen goes blank and nothing happens thereafter.

I have never faced such problems before. Please help.

Sanju.

ok. You have to make sure your /boot partition is the first one in the HD and cannot exceed cilinder 1024 ( if I am not mistaken). Also, you might want to add to your boot loader mem=nonpentium and check if PnP is disabled on your BIOS.

Q: Are you installing lilo?
If the answer is yes, then use grub instead.

I had the exact same problem with an ASUS A7N266-VM MoBo. I upgraded to GRUB .93 and was finally able to boot. You can get it from here: http://people.debian.org/~nobse/debi...ckported/grub/
