Unhappy Red Hat Enterprise 3 (WS): Networking Issues

Hello everyone,

I am experiencing some IP configuration issues on my Linux Red Hat Enterprise 3 (WS) server. When trying to resolve them by typing the following commands, I get nowhere:

1) cat hosts
(no such file or directory)
2) hostname
(Linux2005)
3) nslookup
(note nslookup is deprecated and may be removed from future releases consider using the 'dig' or 'host' programs instead. Run nslookup with the '-sil ent' option to prevent this message from appearing.)
4) UNIX dig command: SERVER: 192.9.200.80#53 (192.9.200.80) + gives me 3 sections: QUESTION SECTION, ANSWER, ADDITIONAL SECTION.
-----
How can I go about addressing and resolving the PB with the Java Exceptions in the error log file + IP host Pop-up message during the installation ?

PT

PS: I will attemps to reinstall the Oracle 9i database + change the library + relink all.

Are you running these cat commands in the /etc directory?

What do you get with the output of:

/sbin/ifconfig

The /etc/hosts file has nothing to do with IP configurations.

And when you tried using nslookup (not sure why, use dig), did you actually specify an IP address or hostname to lookup?
