recover from bad update

I have been running Fedora Core on my laptop. It was quite a pain to get working. But it has been operating fine for weeks now. Today I updated the kernel and then rebooted. Update some other packages. Some of these were GUI stuff, gnome x etc. I noticed that the packages did not seem to finish downloading before moving on and then to installation. Upon reboot I noticed the graphics had some flaws, and my keyboard won't work. My question is how do I install the last updates? I tried to do a repair from the CD but it failed to correct the problems. How do I fix this? All help is greatly appreciated, jeff
