Recording Music
 
I want to record music from my HiFi to my PC. How do I record stright to MP3 or Ogg, at the moment I am record to wav.
could some please tell me what software to use.

You must first record to wav , and then make MP3.
Use some MP3 encoder like Lame.

I use grip and it works perfectly for me (it rips and converts directly, either to MP3 or Ogg). It comes with mandrake.

Yes, grip is good, but its only gui. You must have some encoder, like lame, to make mp3s.
If you want to make ogg then use oggenc. It is encoder too.

I will stick with the old way.

Just a few more questions I use grip to rip my CD, How do I my grip rip the files to ogg.

change the encoder to oggenc or whatever.
