recompiling the kernel help


Ok I got the kernel source and I did a make mr proper then a make xconfig then make dep then I tried make bzimage and I got an error, what am I doing wrong?

I don't know. You can read the error and we can't unless you post it.

you should do make clean after make dep..
read this and see if you did it properly

ok I found out I was doing somthing wrong I was typing in "make bzimage" instead of "make bzImage" but then I get a new error message having to do with sound or somthing. Here it is

make[3]: *** [sounddrivers.o] Error 1
make[3]: Leaving directory `/usr/src/linux-2.4.20-8/drivers/sound'
make[2]: *** [first_rule] Error 2
make[2]: Leaving directory `/usr/src/linux-2.4.20-8/drivers/sound'
make[1]: *** [_subdir_sound] Error 2
make[1]: Leaving directory `/usr/src/linux-2.4.20-8/drivers'
make: *** [_dir_drivers] Error 2
