recieve mail script
this *might* belong in software, but it's not entirely tied to a single program.
i want to setup an SMTP mail server to recieve mail that can run a custom script upon arrival/storage of new mail messages. every search i've done on the subject has turned up scripting to send mail, but i have not found any information on how to configure any well known MTA (sendmail or postfix) to run scripts upon receiving mail.
can anyone shed some light on how to do this? tips for either sendmail or postfix are preferred.
some thoughts:
it could possibly be done by making a milter script to do the desired task, but this seems kind of a 'hackish' way to do it, since milter is for filtering, and this is not really a filtering operation. there has to be a better way.
in a worst case scenario, the source code could be modified to call recieve mail scripts, but this option is very undesirable.
