receiving unwanted data from internet

I have fc4 and connect to internet in a virtual private network.
My IP address is 172.16.1.7
the internet gateway address is 192.168.100.1
so when I try to connect it i cannot unless I write this command
/sbin/ip route add default via 172.16.0.1
every time I want to run the internet interface.

till here everything is fine, even sometimes everthing works fine.
but a week ago I notice that my money account is empty when I checked how much data I have received I saw that it was around 165MB which made my account -2$.
Then nothing happened like that untill yesterday which i received 190MB .
and again my account became -2$.

There is no update program activated on my computer.
I think there is a problem in my pptpconfig file.
there is another possilblity that someone else in my network makes a connection to internet via my computer but as far as in my network all people work under wirndows this possiblilt is less likely to be true.

Does anyone ever had such problem?

Hi,

Yes, we all receive unwanted data.... You can use 'iptraf' to get a basic idea of what is going through your connection.... Then if you want to get serious something like ethereal will show you every little byte

Also consider installing mrtg, it will show you when the data is moving

Cheers,
Andrew
