Reboot linux without resetting machine (i.e. BIOS POST, GRUB etc.)

How can i reboot linux without need to pass POST, using GRUB, just reload kernel (or load another one)?

If you are switching kernels, you will need to reboot the machine as the running kernel gets loaded by GRUB.

However, you should not - ideally - need to reboot, as you can dynamically modify the kernel through "rmmod", "modprobe", etc., and issuing various runlevels through "telinit".

kexec can do most of what you want - needs a fair bit of setting up in advance. Last I looked the documentation was average - at best.

Depending on what you are doing, I would think that running "init 3" (single user), followed by "init 5" (the normal GUI runlevel) would reset most things.
For some issues, all you have to do is restart X (ctrl-alt-backspace).

I just need to restart kernel after i enable some features which cannot be compiled as modules.
