Reading data from iSCSI drive hangs system completely

Hi,

I've setup an iSCSI server using openfiler. All works fine and I can mount the drives as they should. I can even put data on them.

The problem arises when I try to read data. This will completely hang the client. For some strange reason the "Caps Lock" and "Scroll Lock" lights on the keyboard start blinking and the machine is dead as a doornail after that. Has anyone ever experienced this before? And more important, does anyone know how to fix this? (The most annoying bit is actually that it works perfectly from a Windows client).

The linux distribution I'm using is OpenSuSE 10.3. Since the system dies without even having time for a kernel panic it's a bit hard to find any logs on why it goes wrong.

Many thanks in advance.
Louis

Ok, found a workaround

Ok, I found a workaround. It appears that the open-iSCSI initiators that ship with OpenSuSE are broken. And for some reason it proves to be impossible to compile a newer version of the open-iSCSI drivers on SuSE.

So if anyone else is experiencing the same issue, just switch to the Intel iSCSI drivers and off you go. They do compile and work. You can find them at http://sourceforge.net/projects/intel-iscsi
