re-configuring PHP

I've been trying out my new apache/php/mysql install on redhat 9.0 for a couple days now. I have been having problems passing variables between php scripts and couldn't figure it out until I saw that there is an option to enable track_vars when configuring php.

My question is...can you just reconfigure php and do another 'make'? Or do I have to get rid of my previous install and re-install everything including Apache and mysql?

Now I know you can just use "&HTTP_POST_VARS" or "&HTTP_GET_VARS" but that is getting tedious. I just don't want to mess up my install being a noob and all. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
