How much RAM do you have? I think the new kernel can handle a large amount, way more than the average desktop workstation could think of. So however much you have, I am sure Linux can handle.

Bigmem
I think the limit was 2GB's before kernel 2.4. But there was a "BigMem" patch you could get to expand that limit with 2.2.x kernels.
http://oss.sgi.com/projects/bigmem/
BUT.. I think Redhat might already have that patch installed in v6.2.

The 2.4 kernel can handle 4GB on Intel Hardware.

Slackware 1.3.30 mem max?
I have 96MB of EDO Ram installed, but for some reason, linux only reports 64MB. Any ideas as to why this is or ways to fix it short of upgrading to 2.X? (I'm rather limited on space.. my /dev/hda2 is only 300MB )

You'll need to add a line to your lilo.conf file that states the amount of of memory that you have. In your case, the line will look like this:
append="mem=96M"
Place this on a line prior to your images. Once you've made the change, make sure you run lilo again before rebooting.

I was wondering if I could ask a slightly more
specific question about memory limitations.
On an Intel based machine (4 CPU Xenon) using
a 2.4 kernel, gcc and glibc how much memory
can I use in one process?
The machine I'll have access to has 4 Gb of RAM
and I was sort of hoping to use all of it!
